Attention Pilots: VIP TFR Martha's Vineyard - August 6-21

Posted on Aug 6, 2016 7:00:00 AM

President Obama and his family are kicking off a two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, spending their final summer vacation as first family on the island.

Arriving Saturday, August 6th and departing Sunday, August 21st, the visit has prompted multiple TFRs which will impact both Martha’s Vineyard (KMVY) and Nantucket (KACK) airports as well as the surrounding area - including the Marshfield Airport (KGHG). It is imperative pilots take note of related TFRs and plan accordingly.

GA operations within a 10 nautical mile (nm) radius of Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY/DME) will be prohibited for the duration of this time-frame, with the exception only of approved law enforcement, air ambulance, and others with security pre-approval. Additional restrictions are also in affect beyond this area, extending to a 30 nm radius of MVY.

To accommodate general aviation arrivals at Martha's vineyard (MVY) during this time frame, TSA gateway airport procedures are in place at Westchester Aiport (KHPN), Barnstable Municipal Boardman/Poland Airport (KHYA) and Providence/Green State Airport (KPVD) and will also be available at Martha's Vineyard (MVY) for operators departing Martha's Vineyard (MVY) while the TFR is in affect.

TSA screening will be available effective from 608061800 UTC (1400 local) 08/06/16 until 1608062359 UTC (1959 local) 08/06/16, then daily effective 1608071000 UTC (0600 local) August 7,2016 to 1608212359 UTC (1959 local) August 21 2016. Operators must register with TSA for gateway screening no less than 24 hours prior to their scheduled departure time by contacting TSA at (+1) 617.561.8031

While no changes are expected according to aviation officials, schedules are subject to change at a moment’s notice and pilots are reminded to check TFRs along with weather as part of your pre-flight before each and every flight.
