As part of its year-long celebration to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the company and its iconic Piper Cub monoplane, Piper Aircraft will host a gala ‘Factory Fly-in’ on Saturday, November 10th, 2012. Aircraft owners of all makes and models are welcome to join the celebration at Piper Aircraft’s Vero Beach manufacturing facility and global headquarters.
Participants will enjoy a welcome reception at the Vero Beach Municipal Airport, customer awards, an aircraft static display, vendor exhibits, facility tours — and even a special history lesson from Piper’s own in-house historian, Roger Peperell. A Piper meet-up and send-off pancake breakfast are also open to all who attend.
The Celebration Takes Shape…
Vero Beach Municipal Airport
Said Piper President and CEO Simon Caldecott, “This celebration is taking on a life of its own. Industry sponsors have been lining up as have political leaders, and the aviation media.”
Caldecott continued, “We’ve already received well over 40 aircraft reservations for the fly-in, which will feature Piper airplanes all the way from the Piper Cub to today’s M-Class aircraft. We expect many more to commit as we get closer to the event itself.”
More than twenty companies will be on-hand to demonstrate their products and services at the event — and many of these have also stepped up to help sponsor the celebration, including Bendix King by Honeywell, Bose Corporation, Garmin International, Inc., SIMCOM Training Centers, ACR/Artex (ACR Electronics, Inc.), Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Aviall - a Boeing Company, Bimini Bay Resort and Marina, Dupont, Hartzel Propeller Inc., Jeppesen, OmnAvia Interiors, and UTC Aerospace Systems.
Fly-in Punctuates A Year of Festivities
Piper has been celebrating its 75th anniversary all year long through various special promotions and events.
More than 100 Piper Cubs turned this year’s EAA AirVenture 2012 Oshkosh flightline into a literal "sea of yellow" as aviation’s largest convention joined in celebrating the famed aircraft that launched the company in 1937.
In addition to showcasing its top-of-the-line M-Class aircraft at the event, Piper also had on display its own vintage Cub to celebrate the legacy of the aircraft. A multitude of Piper Cub owners participated in the Oshkosh fly-in and have played an integral role in the on-going celebrations throughout the year.
Additionally, lucky winner Jeff Parnau received the restored 1940 Piper J-3 Cub grand prize in the 2012 EAA ‘Win the Cub’ Sweepstakes. Parnau, editor-at-large at World Airshow News magazine, also owns a flight school in Wisconsin and was among more than 800,000 sweepstakes participants.
Parnau’s Cub, which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the famous aircraft, has fewer than 100 hours on it since a complete airframe restoration and the overhaul of its Continental A-65-8 engine. Restored to original condition, the aircraft includes sealed struts, Slick magnetos, factory wheelpants, TrickAir Sport 1500 snow skis, and a 12-gallon wing tank.
The 75th Anniversary Fly-In celebration officially kicks off Thursday and Friday, November 8th & 9th. Approved arrival times are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but reservations are required and must be obtained prior to the event.
