Welcome to Marshfield!
If you’re looking for your next fly-in destination, there is no better time of year than now to pay a visit to Marshfield, MA!
With its wonderful seaside location, flying into the Marshfield Airport (GHG) always offers beautiful, coastal views—but the fall season is a particularly special time of year as the leaves begin to change their hue, bringing a spectacular show of color to surrounding landscapes and providing unforgettable aerial views.
Named for the numerous salt marshes along its borders, Marshfield is located in the Massachusetts South Shore area, about halfway between the start of Cape Cod and the city of Boston. Defined by the coastal cities and towns that border the Atlantic Ocean along the southern Massachusetts coast, the South Shore offers some of New England’s most beautiful beaches, and Marshfield is home to several.
While it’s generally too cold for swimming at this time of year, bundling up for a walk along the beach is well worth the effort and a wonderful way to experience the seashore without the crowds of summer. Beachcombing in the cool sand, with sea salt in the breeze and fall in the air couldn’t be a more enjoyable experience!
While you’re in town, you may also want to take advantage of Marshfield’s wonderful golf courses, most of which are open through December and beyond, weather permitting. With a variety of courses to choose from, and some just minutes from the Marshfield Airport, you’ll find everything from breathtaking ocean views, to a course-side pub, to challenging fairways that will test your skills. So don’t forget to pack your clubs!
You may also enjoy a guided fishing excursion while you’re in town, a popular activity with many visiting pilots. Marshfield is a hub for the sport fishing industry and there are numerous fishing charters available. Enjoy the excitement of catching your own striped bass, shark, tuna, bluefish, haddock, cod and other varieties!
If you’re fortunate enough to have the time to spend a few days in town, Marshfield also offers several wonderful options for overnight accommodations.
The Fairview Inn, just one mile from the airport, is located across the street from Brant Rock Beach, providing magnificent ocean views and a balcony for every room. Lovely waterfront accommodations are also available at the Inn at Scituate Harbor and the Nantasket Beach Resort.
And whether you’re just in town for a day or here to stay, you won’t want to miss Marshfield’s award-winning restaurants. The Fairview Inn, with it’s wonderful outdoor patio offers lunch and dinner with a seaside view. For a bit more ambience, the Fieldston Restaurant is an excellent choice. And for breakfast and lunch you won’t want to miss award-winning Arthur & Pats Restaurant—but you’ll have to hurry! This seaside gem is only open from April 1st to November 1st, after which it closes for the season.
There are also many other great dining options available, especially for those who enjoy fresh seafood. You can view additional details and other options on our website here.
