Scientists Depart Marshfield Airport (GHG) to Observe Right Whales

Posted on Sun, May 31, 2015

Right Whales have been making an appearance along the South Shore this spring.  In fact, as many as 60 whales or more have been spotted along the coast of Cape Cod and as far North as Duxbury, MA according to local reports.

While it's common for whales to migrate to the area to feed during summer months, it's unusual for them to be spotted so close to shore, and Right Whales - an endangered species - are generally rarely seen.

Scientists studying these whales have been taking off from Marshfield Airport (GHG) to take a closer look...

Federal regulations prohibit approaching right whales within 500 yards (1500 feet), but you can help support the protection of this rare species by reporting any sightings to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration here.

We'll continue to follow the special appearance of these amazing creatures!
