From the Flight Deck

We received lots of nice comments on our story about two members of Shoreline Aviation’s dedicated crew – Marshfield Municipal Airport Assistant Manager Ben Garman and Line Service Manager Steve Dery – going about their fastidious aircraft prep process. And deservedly so. Ben and Steve, along with their operations associates, showcase their knowledge, their skills, and their dedication to their craft day in and day out. And the story about the pair bore out the reality that the fleet doesn’t fly without this team. For charter fleet success, it truly does take a village.

Because of the pace of the process, no reporter could keep up without using tools to do so. In this case, the reporter videoed the two teammates working together and separately as they wound their way along preparing the fleet’s Pilatus PC-12 NG for flight. He later transcribed their words for the story from 23 video takes.

The story ran with several photos, and the feedback confirmed the value of the project. So motivated, the reporter went back to the 23 videos to see if he could scarf together parts to offer a movie take of the action. One of his challenges was dealing with wind noise. It was a mild but blustery November day, and he wasn’t micing the fellas. So, some telling moments were lost to the noise, but plenty enough remained to blend into the five videos shown here and to a nice reception on social media.
