Visiting Long Island

Situated southwest of Connecticut and northeast of Philadelphia, Long Island is a narrow strip of land that stretches northeast from the southern portion of New York State into the Atlantic Ocean. Spanning the New York City suburbs of Suffolk and Nassau, and the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, Long Island is the largest island in the contiguous United States.

As the home to three major airports, JFK International, LaGuardia (LGA) and Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP), the island is a hub for travel to and from New York City. Offering tunnels, bridges and ferry access to the city as well as its other boroughs, Long Island can feel like a junction to pass through en route to other destinations, but the island itself offers its own unique charm and an abundance of tourist activities and villages to explore.

While the island is nearly 120 miles long, it is less than 25 miles wide which means no matter what your location, you’re never far from the shore! With its beaches, waterfront parks and ocean trails, there are numerous ways to take in the ocean air. For those who prefer inland activities, visitors can experience one-of-a-kind boutiques and restaurants, art galleries and museums, and the island’s abundance of historical points of interest.
