Shoreline Aviation fielded a feisty foursome on the best early day of summer to swing away in the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield 11th annual Golf Classic.

Shoreline President Keith Douglass, Pilot Mike James, Charter Operations Manager Patrick Olson, and Line Service Technician Steve Dery lathered on the sun lotion before zipping off in their carts to the 17th tee for the shotgun start at Marshfield Country Club.

It’s not their first time chipping for the cause.

“All the players, sponsors and volunteers do this annually,” said Boys & Girls Club CEO Jim Bunnell, who grew up with a Boys & Girls Club in Portland, Maine. “It’s an incredible shout out to this community and the folks who support the Boys & Girls Club.”

So, what does the club do?

“We welcome youth ages 5-18, offering a wide range of programs designed to inspire and empower,” the club says on its website. “From after-school care and vacation programs to sports, arts, and leadership development, there’s something for everyone. Our dedicated staff and volunteers create a nurturing atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported. We are especially proud of our inclusion program, which serves children with diverse needs.”

Funds raised target at-risk kids, food insecurity, homelessness, kids fighting battles with illness, and families in transition time, Jim said. “We are grateful from the many bottoms of our hearts for the 144 people playing here today, that they’re able to be here to support the club and the families who live on the South Shore.”

Jim said the club hoped to net over $110,000 from the tournament. “We put five major fundraising events together, and this is one of our biggest ones,” he said.

To hit the goal, Golf Classic organizers need those 144 golfers. They also need sponsors.

“Thank you Shoreline Aviation!” Jim exclaimed, “They’ve been a sponsor and supporter of the Boys & Girls Club every year since I’ve been involved – over eight years.”
