Summer greetings from Shoreline Aviation!

Marshfield Municipal Airport, Shoreline Aviation, KGHG

Summer greetings from Shoreline Aviation!

A hearty beginning of summer to you! One of our favorite experiences is watching and hearing all the various aircraft here at Marshfield Municipal Airport KGHG take off on adventures and land again having experienced something fresh. The transition of time is no more apparent than what our changing foliage paints for us and the planes that zip in and zoom out.

We recall our photos and videos of takeoffs and landings taken in winter, with swatches of boring brown sticks stuck in the background, dotted with the lingering green of pines and surrounded with drab, gray skies. Spring slowly, finally dawned, and dreary days grew less so and started to pop. Hints of green mingled more and more with the brown and gray, and suddenly – rich, full growth filled the backdrop to the planes growling down the runway, and a whole sense of dimension returned.

Shoreline/KGHG voted Best of the South Shore!

One uplifting moment of spring – of the many – was receiving word in late April that Shoreline Aviation and our airport (www.shorelineaviation.net) were subjects of some marvelous news.

“Marshfield Municipal Airport (KGHG) / Shoreline Aviation” were voted “BEST LOCAL AIRLINE / AIRPORT” in South Shore Home, Life & Style magazine’s annual “BEST OF THE SOUTH SHORE” contest. We like happy news as much as anyone, and hearing this news after weeks of voting put us over the moon! Nominees had been voted by readers, and we congratulate Cape Air / Nantucket Airlines for placing runner up. And cheers to the fine airports stretching from the Cape to Providence to Boston that garnered their fans’ votes.

We gratefully accept! Recognition is always warming. Especially when it comes from you – our many friends, fans and clients. Our big challenge, however, was keeping mum about the news until the magazine’s Summer edition broke the news in early June.

Many fine folks kept up the pace with daily voting over a few weeks and put us over the top, for which we are truly grateful! We’re also grateful to South Shore Home, Life & Style for selecting Shoreline for a super spotlight notice in their Summer issue’s report of winners – reserved for a select few of the 230 winners, most of whom appear in a list. That spotlight is shown in the accompanying graphic.

Here is the writeup that accompanied our win announcement.

“Experienced flight crews, meticulously cared-for aircraft, and a detail-oriented flight logistics team deliver an incomparable experience for passengers who fly out of Marshfield Municipal Airport.

“It was 1947 when WWII Navy pilot Joseph Ford purchased land in Marshfield to fulfill his dream to create an airport. The town purchased the airport in 1967, a new runway was built, and extensive improvements have been made over the years.

“Shoreline Aviation Inc. has been operating Marshfield Municipal Airport for the town since 1981, while growing a vibrant charter, aircraft acquisition and management, maintenance, and flight instruction business. Shoreline offers a full range of aircraft to meet private charter needs and flies its fleet across the country and around the world.

“No matter where passengers are headed, Shoreline Aviation’s unyielding focus on safety will ensure peace of mind on every flight.”

South Shore Home, Life & Style is a superb magazine – highly recommended! The Summer issue is on the stands, so if you’re in the area, please support local business and pick up your coffee table-worthy copy. (And see our ad inside.) It’s published right here on the South Shore and is filled with regional articles and advertisements for area businesses. You can find its website here: https://southshorehomelifeandstyle.com.

So, thanks for the recognition!

Aviator of the Month – a special anniversary

A popular social media feature that Shoreline engages in is taking a look at a historic figure in aviation, often and early aviator. This month we recognize the 40th anniversary of astronaut Sally Ride’s history-making ride into space in Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983. That June 18, Ride became the first American woman to travel to space.

Ride was born in 1951 and died in 2012 of pancreatic cancer.

  • She was one of only six women accepted in the eighth class of astronauts.
  • Ride learned to fly a T-38 jet and participated in the design of the remote mechanical manipulator arm during astronaut training.
  • She became the first American woman in space aboard STS-7, Challenger, in 1983 where she served as a flight engineer and mission specialist. She used the remote manipulator arm to deploy and retrieve a satellite that flew in formation with the space shuttle for part of the mission.
  • She Returned to space on Challenger STS-41G in 1984 when she operated the remote manipulator arm to deploy a radiation-study satellite and to stow the antenna for the shuttle imaging radar system.
  • Ride was assigned to NASA headquarters as special assistant to the administrator for long-range and strategic planning. She was responsible for the creation of NASA’s “Office of Exploration” and produced a report on the future of the space program. The effort became known as the “Ride Report.”
